Inspiring Conversation with Cheryl Campos on Empowering Latino Founders in the U.S. Venture Capital World.

Cheryl Campos is a super impressive person who made me reexamine my priorities. Cheryl’s path has many similarities to mine but also some pretty big differences. She is of Peruvian 🇵🇪 descent, grew up in NYC, attended Harvard University and now is at Stanford University Graduate School of Business .

Like me, her family immigrated and had no real connections in the US and did not come from a wealthy background. She had to work hard from a very young age to achieve her goals and support her family.

She has had some great experiences working in finance but what brought us together was her work supporting Latine founders and investors in the US.

She cofounded VCFamilia and LaFamilia Foundation that aim to build community and increasing participation of investors and founders of Latin descent in the US VC ecosystem.

We talked a lot about what success would look like if the ecosystem in the US had less bias. A very famous VC once said that one of the most important factors in deciding to back a founder, was if they could not stop thinking about the business days after hearing the first pitch.

I can tell you since I met Cheryl I have been thinking about what she said and how I could do more here in the US for essentially the same type of founders I back in LatAm.

It was awesome to meet Cheryl Campos and I look forward to supporting her and her mission in 2024!
