A Chat with Nicolas Toro, Lead for Latin America at Silicon Valley Bank

Nicolas Toro has worn many hats in the LatAm startup community and now as the lead for Latin America at Silicon Valley Bank he is at the center of the network. I first met Nicolas a few years ago and remember his story was very unique.

Early in his career he worked at the Peace Corps in the Ukraine and then worked in Colombia with the National Agency to Overcome Extreme Poverty. He gained an appreciation of the challenges faced by so many but also the limits of NGOs role in helping those in most need.

Eventually Nicolas joined the team at Endeavor Colombia and worked there for almost 6 years evaluating 100s of startups, meeting with investors of all types, and eventually working with the Endeavor Catalyst team helping them raise Fund IV. He saw upfront some of the leading founders in LatAm and how startups could be a force for change.

Just a few weeks ago he joined the team at SVB to lead the LatAm practice and work alongside a very strong team including Andy Tsao who has been instrumental in SVB’s international business.

It was fun to meet at the Starbucks on Sand Hill Road as he met with his team here in the San Francisco Bay Area and learn about his plans and how we can support each other.

Nicolas Toro is already a major connector in the ecosystem but in his new role he will be in a position to help, connect, and support so many more people across Latin America.
