I am in Monterrey Mexico and the first person I met with was Ignacio Alvarez from moneypool. Moneypool helps friends, families, and groups pool money together for meals, group outings, poker night, and many other use cases. The app also supports direct peer to peer payments.
I first met “Nacho” in Palo Alto a few years ago when people first started to travel again post pandemic.
In addition to being an entrepreneur, Nacho is a professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey. A few months later he brought a group of 30+students to Silicon Valley to visit startups and large tech companies, and I was lucky enough to be a stop on their tour to share why I invest in tech companies in Latin America.
Over dinner here in Monterrey we talked about the startup community in Monterrey from founders to investors to family offices.
We also talked about Moneypool’s growth and the team’s journey to finding product market fit. From becoming experts in fraud prevention, to deciding to focus on the groups payment use case, to how to drive viral growth.
I always feel grateful that so many people in Latin America have helped me and I hope to return the favor by supporting them and by building NuMundo Ventures. Congrats to Ignacio Alvarez, Gerardo Acuña , Constantino Madero, and the entire moneypool team.
I am excited to share more from Monterrey!
