Finally! I met up with Alfonso De los Rios the CEO and co-founder of Nowports. I first heard about “Poncho” while working with Mairon Sandoval from OneCarNow! We were looking for a young founder that was highly respected in the LatAm startup community to join as an advisor or angel.
Poncho came on board and was part of the initial backers for OneCarNow! that helped get more people to fund and believe in Mairon Sandoval and Manuel Cangas vision.
Later Poncho and I would become angels in several other companies including DeltaX and Pandas. Our paths kept crossing so it was great to finally meet in person in Monterrey.
What is so impressive about Poncho is his depth of thinking about the logistics market, company leadership, HR and team issues, and entrepreneurship. You sense his drive and clarity of thinking the moment you meet him.
The road building a company is hard and Poncho shared some early near death experiences at Nowports and how some of his earliest investors played crucial roles in supporting the company.
Nowports and several other logistics related companies in Latin America (e.g., Finkargo , Nuvocargo, DeltaX Pandas, marco, Mundi) are modernizing industries that are hundreds if not thousands of years old.
In addition, with nearshoring and shifts in trade routes that increase LatAm’s importance in logistics, I am excited about the impact these companies will make to the region. Thank you Alfonso De los Rios and to the Monterrey startup community for being so welcoming to me!
